About us

Thalassotherapia Opatija, founded in 1957, on the initiative by prof. dr. Čedomil Plavšić, is the first health institution in our country, but also former Yugoslavia, which introduced a professional and modern diagnostics, prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases. It is one of the first health institutions in this part of Europe where the period of passive approach to heart patients rehabilitation ceased, and where an operative, active and professionally controlled rehabilitation started. Today, Thalassotherapia Opatija employs 261 employees, 37 of whom are specialized physicians in the area of cardiology, rheumatology, physical medicine and neurology. It is always on the source of modern medical findings and it successfully aims for following and shaping current trends in the treatment of cardiovascular and rheumatological patients. It is also connected with the Villa Dubrava, with 37 rooms and a medical wellness on 2500 m2, which satisfies all the needs of a modern man for health, rest and pleasure.

Additional information

Thalassotherapia Opatija is a teaching base for the School of Medicine in Rijeka and the School of Medicine in Osijek. Clinic for Treatment, Rehabilitation and Prevention of Heart and Blood Vessels Diseases of the University of Rijeka School of Medicine. Referential centre of the Ministry of Health for the rehabilitation of heart patients and the Referential Centre for Health Tourism and Medically Programmed Holiday by the Croatian Ministry of Health.
