This Faculty was founded back in 1960 and is the only institution of higher education in Croatia covering tourism, hospitality and sustainable development. It comprises both undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies. The UNWTO has ranked this Faculty among the 120 leading educational institutions in the world contributing to the innovative development of tourism. In addition to educational activities, it also offers lifelong learning programmes. The Faculty’s seat is in Opatija.
The Faculty is engaged in research in the fields of social sciences, economics and the related scientific disciplines, which is financed both by Croatian ministries and the EU through project grants. The Faculty organizes two traditional scientific conferences per year, and since 1995 has been publishing the indexed scientific journal Tourism and Hospitality Management.
The Faculty provides its students and teachers with internal and external mobility through Erasmus programmes and Ceepus networks: Education Without Frontiers and Amadeus, and through the YUFE exchange. In addition to cooperation with other institutions of higher education, the Faculty actively cooperates with businesses, the public sector and the civil society.

The Faculty has established a postgraduate interdisciplinary specialist HEALTH TOURISM STUDY, which is carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Rijeka with the support of the Reference Centre for Health Tourism and Medically Programmed Vacations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia and Thalassotherapia Opatija.
