About us

The study of dental medicine was founded in October 1973 on the foundations of the Higher School of Dentistry. In November 1973, the first generation of forty-six dental medicine students was enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka, and since then the study has been continuously conducted. Due to the level reached by the Study of Dental Medicine during 46 years of progressive activity in science and higher education, for its further development there was a logical and justified need to change the formal and organizational framework – the establishment of a new component of the University of Rijeka, the Faculty of Dental Medicine.

The Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Rijeka started working independently on March 1, 2020, and is made up of teachers and specialists from all our specialist branches. A large number of external collaborators are involved in the work. Students, as the most important product of the Faculty’s work, after graduation join the Faculty’s scientific and professional work. The recognition of the Faculty is numerous internationally recognized publications, and several scientific research projects that resulted in international cooperation. Some projects were initiated by faculty professors in cooperation with Primorje-Gorski County, the Institute of Public Health and the City of Rijeka, and most of the projects were initiated by students.

At the Faculty, in addition to the University’s integrated undergraduate and graduate study in Dental Medicine, there is also a study of dental medicine in English, and in 2017, the University’s undergraduate study in Dental Hygiene was accredited.

The structure of the Faculty of Dental Medicine consists of 7 chairs:
Department of Pediatric Dentistry; Department of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry; Department of Oral Surgery; Department of Oral Medicine; Department of Orthodontics; Department of Periodontology and Department of Dental Prosthetics.
